In this post, we check out Naked Nutrition’s signature mass-gaining supplement: Naked Mass.
Overall rating4.2 out of 5.0 stars
Featuring only three ingredients, Naked Mass looks like a weight gainer that means business.
It features fast- and slow-digesting protein sources, organic maltodextrin – supplying your body with 1250 calories, 252 grams of carbs, 2.5 grams of fat, 5 grams of sugar, and 50g of protein per serving (4 scoops).
This weight gainer protein powder is free from artificial additives, sweeteners, or gluten. It is available in Chocolate, Vanilla, and Unflavored variants.

Whenever I search “best weight gainers”, Naked Mass almost always comes up. I tried Naked Mass to find out if it deserves all that attention and if it can help me build muscle.
In this article, I do an intensive review of Naked Mass, covering these areas:
- Nutritional value
- Protein composition
After reading the whole review, you will have an easier time deciding if Naked Mass is the right weight gainer protein powder for you.
Before we proceed, I just want to lay out the basic info about Naked Mass.
Naked Mass is Naked Nutrition’s take on natural mass-building supplements. It markets itself as using “Only Three Premium Ingredients with Nothing to Hide” – and you can clearly see that on its label.
These three ingredients are:
- Naked Whey
- Naked Casein
- Organic Tapioca Maltodextrin
Naked Nutrition Naked Mass prides itself on having zero additives and artificial flavors. It also contains an impressive 1250 calories, 252 grams of complex carbohydrates, 2.5 grams of fat, and 50 grams of protein per serving – which looks like a solid profile for a mass gainer drink.
As a skinny person, I have always been on the lookout for an effective mass gainer to help me grow big in less time. I’ve been taking a look at different weight gainers that are quite popular, and some of them contain artificial additives, added sugar, and sweeteners – which I am trying to avoid.
As you know, synthetic additives can cause stomach-related problems, indigestion, and gas, so I just didn’t want to take a chance with a mass gainer that had those ingredients.
Marketed as having zero additives, sweeteners, and banned substances, I knew I had to give Naked Mass a try and see if it would satisfy my demand for a healthy weight gainer beverage.
If you are:
- Someone who wants a solid mass gainer with no added fluff or fillers
- Someone who is looking for a mass gainer supplement with an Unflavored variant
- Someone who wants fast- and slow-digesting proteins in one drink
Then, keep on reading.
However, if you are:
- Someone who only needs a moderate amount of calories and protein
- Someone who is lactose-intolerant and needs plant-sourced protein
- Someone who wants a rich-tasting drink
- Someone who is on a tight budget
I don’t think Naked Nutrition Naked Mass would be the best for you.
Here’s What I Think About Naked Mass Weight Gainer Protein Powder…
Taking a look at its nutritional label, Naked Mass seems well-built when it comes to delivering mass-gaining calories and muscle-building protein.
Leading mass gainers in the market usually contain more than 1000 calories per serving. Each serving of Naked Mass gives you a massive 1250 calories, which is almost the same amount of calories you get in a 500-gram cut of steak. If you are planning on bulking up, adding Naked Mass to your diet makes it easier for you to hit a calorie surplus each day.
Each serving contains 252g of complex carbohydrates, in the form of organic tapioca maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is readily digested by the body – this means that it can quickly replenish depleted energy reserves and get to work supplying nutrients to your muscle cells.
Naked Mass looks rather impressive by claiming that it does not contain any artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors. It is gluten-free and does not contain GMOs, soy, or growth hormones that may trigger stomach-related issues.
If I’m drinking a mass gainer, I want one that is loaded with calories. I don’t see the point in drinking a creamy drink that does little in boosting my calorie intake. Naked Mass gets a thumbs up from me in terms of calorie content!
Aside from its rich caloric content, Naked Mass also looks serious in helping you gain weight, build muscle, and give you amino acids for mass-building support. Each serving supplies your body with 50 grams of protein (whey and casein) – that’s roughly the same amount of protein you get with typical protein powders, maybe even more.
Its high protein blend is made of Naked Whey (fast-digesting protein) and Naked Casein (slow-digesting protein). According to Naked Mass, its whey and casein proteins are sourced from high-quality milk, produced by grass-fed cows that spend 300+ days per year and 19+ hours per day on pasture.
Both proteins featured in Naked Mass have a complete amino acid profile, which means that they contain all 9 Essential Amino Acids that are needed for supporting muscle mass growth and repair.
Each serving also contains 11.5g of BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids), which help protect against muscle wastage and breakdown.
Since I am aiming to build lean mass, Naked Mass looks ready to give me the protein I need each day. With both fast- and slow-digesting proteins (whey and casein), I can take Naked Mass practically any time of the day – early in the morning, in between meals, after your workout, or before going to bed.
Now, I’ve tried a few other mass gainers in the past. Some of them taste quite delicious, while some simply taste gross. Since Naked Mass says that it does not contain any artificial flavors or sweeteners, I did not expect a lot when it comes to its taste, flavor, and consistency.
I tried to mix it using a spoon, but it wasn’t the best idea – as it ended up in a drink that was full of clumped-up powders. It mixes well when you use a shaker bottle or a blender.
When it comes to flavor, Naked Mass did not impress me that much – but I wasn’t setting my hopes that high. The Chocolate and Vanilla variants didn’t excite my taste buds. You may want to try adding slices of fruit, scoops of peanut butter, honey, or oats to jazz up the taste of your drink.
The Unflavored variant, however, looks like a better choice. You can just mix it with your favorite juice, ice cream, or protein beverage to boost its flavor – at least you don’t have to put up with a plain Chocolate or Vanilla taste.
I’m quite picky when it comes to the taste and mixability of a weight gainer. The plain taste of Naked Mass is most likely due to it not having any artificial sweeteners or flavors – which is still a good thing if you are trying to avoid synthetic additives.
Just mix in a few slices of fresh strawberries or a fistful of crushed cookies to perk up the flavor of this shake.
Naked Mass can be quite pricey for an 8lb tub, especially if you compare it with other mass gainers in the market. That translates to around the same price (or a bit more) as a venti Starbucks drink per serving!
If you are on a limited budget, you might want to consider some budget-friendly weight gainer supplements, such as GNO Pro Performance Bulk 1340, which costs less for its 12lb bag.
You may also want to check out BSN True-Mass 1200, which has a reasonable price tag for its 10.38lb tub.
If you are looking to maximize the value of your hard-earned money, Naked Mass is probably not the best choice out there. $5.90 per serving is a bit too steep, especially if you are someone on a limited budget.
Check Out My Results from Using Naked Mass
For 3 months, I followed an effective workout program, led a healthy lifestyle, ate well-rounded meals, and consumed a serving of Naked Mass each day.
I must say that I did notice improvements in my body composition and strength. If I continue with this training regimen, I am pretty sure I can grow even larger and more muscular.
Here are a few Amazon reviews that I found from users who also took Naked Mass:
“I just started lifting weights about 3 months ago. And was taking some protein powder from another brand. It contained a good amount of protein but its calorie content wasn’t that great. I was also trying to eat higher-calorie healthy foods to help me gain. This product has the best of both worlds, high protein and the calories I need. I need 4300 calories per day and this product will get me over the hump. It’s always hard for tall slim guys to build muscle. This product has it all.”
“Gained four pounds in the first week of use without the bloated discomfort or negative side effects of other brands like maxi nutrition pro gain. No artificial sweeteners or colors and also GMO, soy, and gluten-free. Mixes easily with a shaker bottle without lumps. I found it quite palatable on its own or sometimes I would add fresh fruit like strawberries for a change. Great product. Try it and you won’t be disappointed. If you find four scoops is too much, start with two or three and work your way up.”
“I was very disappointed with this product. I purchased it because one of my favorite chefs talked about it because it’s natural. Once I used it, it was terrible. Soooo sweet. So thick. Not what I expected from a protein shake. I cannot recommend this product. It was terrible.”
“The taste is not what I expected to be. I knew it was going to be a weird taste but not as bad as I expected it to be. I have to get used to this vanilla taste.”
Is Naked Mass Right for You?
Now that I’ve tackled the different features of Naked Mass, checked out its pros and cons, and given my personal experience with it, let’s talk about YOU!
As with any weight gainer, Naked Mass is not the perfect product for everyone. Let’s find out who exactly is this weight gainer best suited for.
For Hard Gainers
Anyone having trouble gaining weight can benefit from adding Naked Mass to their diet. With just one serving, you load up your body with a whopping 1250 calories, 242 grams of carbs (organic tapioca), and 50 grams of protein – all those nutrients needed for bulking up and building lean muscle.
For Health-Conscious People
Naked Mass is an ideal weight gain drink to take if you are steering clear of artificial additives, flavoring agents, colors, gluten, or soy. However, if you are lactose-intolerant, you might want to choose a lactose-free weight gain drink instead.
For Protein Hunters
Naked Mass won’t disappoint when it comes to protein content. You get 50 grams of protein per serving, which is roughly the same amount you get from leading protein powders. Naked Mass also features whey and casein protein, which are perfect for nourishing your muscles for sustained periods.
If you are not fond of plain-tasting drink supplements, you may want to consider Muscle Milk Gainer, which is prized for its milkshake-like taste and texture.
For those who are on a tight budget, you might be better off purchasing GNC Pro Performance Bulk 1340, which just costs around $3.22 per serving.
For lactose-intolerant people, I suggest you try Vegan Naked Mass, which uses plant-based proteins instead of dairy.
The Bottom Line
So, is Naked Mass a weight gainer worth trying? Personally, I would say YES. I loved the fact that it contained impressive amounts of calories, carbs, and protein. Not having any artificial additives, sweeteners, and flavoring agents is also a big plus for me.
Being gluten-free, soy-free, GMO-free, it just feels good chugging on your drink, knowing that you are not ingesting any synthetic chemicals or fillers.
The only concern I have with this supplement is that it can be a bit too pricey, especially when you compare it with popular mass gainers in the market today.
Also, its flavor profile is not something to write home about. If you have picky taste buds, you might find yourself longing for more flavorful servings.
